Garrett recycling plan to be discussed

OAKLAND — The Garrett County Solid Waste and Recycling office will review a proposed amendment to its 10-year solid waste management plan at a public meeting Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room of the courthouse.

The plan will be amended to comply with legislation that requires owners of apartment buildings or condominiums that have 10 or more units to provide recycling to their tenants by Oct. 1, 2014.

House Bill 1 requires the recycling of metal, plastic and glass containers and paper. The property owners must provide for the removal of these materials.

County staff will discuss the impact on owners and tenants and will answer questions during the public meeting.

A copy of the draft language for the amendment is available at garrettcounty.org/solid-waste-recycling, at the landfill office and at the Grantsville branch of the Ruth Enlow Library.
