— FLINTSTONE — Two drivers were injured when their rigs collided on eastbound Interstate 68 at the 53-mile marker late Thursday. The roadway was closed until 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Monte Redinger, 28, of Clearville, Pa., and Tony Harris, 58, of Shreveport, La., were flown to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center following the 10:52 p.m. crash for treatment of unknown injuries.

The victims were taken to the hospital by the Maryland State Police medevac helicopter.

State police said Redinger was driving a 1990 Kenworth tractor-trailer without a load when the rig collided with a 2001 Freightliner semi-trailer operated by Harris and carrying a load of wooden pellets.

Upon impact, the Harris rig overturned, police said.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Traffic was detoured from I-68 by the State Highway Administration and Allegany County Fire Police.

Flintstone, Little Orleans and Baltimore Pike volunteer fire companies, Cumberland Fire Department, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Allegany County Hazardous Incident Response Team also responded.
