SHORT GAP, W.Va. — A man armed with a knife robbed the First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union branch off state Route 28 just before 10 a.m. Friday.
Deputies from the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the West Virginia State Police responded to the incident in the Furnace Acres area, according to the sheriff’s department.
The suspect demanded money and then ran from the bank, entering a wooded area behind the bank, police said.
Police believe that the suspect had a vehicle parked nearby and then fled the area in the vehicle.
Maryland State Police units, including the Trooper 5 medevac helicopter, responded to assist.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Frankfort Middle and Frankfort High School and Bel Air and Cresaptown Elementary schools were placed on lock-in as a precaution.
