Publication of store’s surveillance photo leads to pair’s arrest

— CUMBERLAND — Brandon Allen Matthew Rotruck, 26, of Cumberland, and Brandi Diane Mathis, 24, of Cumberland, were arrested Friday by the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit and charged with several counts of fraud in connection with the use of a stolen credit card at the Walmart in LaVale.

The investigation began when the victim discovered that a wallet had been stolen while at Star-Lite Roller Skating Center in LaVale. The victim later learned that a credit card had been used at the Walmart store in LaVale. The victim reported the incident to Maryland State Police.

A surveillance photo of the suspects was published in the Times-News leading to possible identifications. Together with the photo, further interviews helped investigators develop Ro-truck and Mathis as suspects. Police obtained a search warrant for a private residence on Memorial Avenue in Cumberland where a large amount of items that had allegedly been purchased from Walmart using the stolen credit card were recovered.

Rotruck and Mathis were taken before a District Court commissioner for initial appearances. Rotruck is being held on $8,500 bond and Mathias on $5,000 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
