Six people charged with bear-hunting violations taking cases to Garrett court

Many choose to prepay fine, court costs

— CUMBERLAND — Many of the people charged by Maryland Natural Resources Police with bear-hunting violations on the opening day of that season, Oct. 22, have prepaid fines and court costs in Garrett and Allegany counties, though others have chosen to be heard in court.

Paying $477.50 fines for using bait to hunt bears, according to the Maryland Judiciary Case Search website, were:

• Paul Alfred Bittinger, 69, Oakland.

• John Preston Carnes Jr., 40, Hagerstown.

• Myron Lee Draper III, 24, Williamsport.

• Myron Lee Draper Jr., 54, Williamsport.

• Michael Lawrence Miller, 39, Knoxville.

• Richard Lee Montgomery, 48, Westernport.

• Franklin Paul Skipper, 50, Swanton.

• Donald Lee Upole Sr., 70, Oakland.

Paying $477.50 for using bait to hunt bears and $177.50 for not wearing fluorescent orange were:

• Robert Lee Thomas Jr., 51, Harwood.

• Jose Bento Milheiro, 61, Sterling, Va.

Paying $477.50 for using bait to hunt bears and $477.50 for hunting bears without a permit were:

• Fernando Lopes Duarte, 53, Laurel.

• Joaquim Conceicao Nunes, 55, Silver Spring.

Paying $477.50 for using bait to hunt bears, $477.50 for hunting bears without a permit and $177.50 for not wearing fluorescent orange was:

 Jose Manuel Quelhas, 48, Rosedale.

Paying $477.50 for using bait to hunt bears and $227.50 for failing to maintain visual contact with hunting partner was:

Jimmy Torres Leitao, 34, Leesburg, Va.

Paying $477.50 for using bait to hunt bears and $477.50 for hunting deer in closed season was:

Jose Manuel Neto, 57, Laurel.

Garrett County District Court has scheduled trials Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. for six people charged with using bait to hunt bears:

• Larry Joseph Nesline, 63, Bittinger.

• Roger Wayne Tracey Jr., 49, Manchester.

• Keith Edward Yeager, 53, Nottingham, also charged with failing to wear orange.

• Edward John Mylinski, 60, Parkton.

• William Matthew Hebler, 58, Swanton.

• Charles Donald Kline, 45, Glen Burnie.

There was no information on the judicial website about David Wayne Hepler, Edgewater, who was listed in a Maryland Department of Natural Resources news release as being charged with a bear-hunting violation.
