Webb running for Senate seat

David Webb, Mineral County Democrat, made official his bid for the 14th District Senate seat by filing last week with the Secretary of State's office.

Sen. Jon Blair Hunter, retiring from the Senate seat, describes Webb as "effective, honest and caring."

The 14th District includes the counties of Mineral, Tucker, Taylor, Barbour, Preston, parts of Grant and Monongalia.

For over a quarter of a century, Webb has worked with the MIneral County Democrats, and currently serves as chairman of the Mineral County Democratic Executive Committee.

Bringing values common to the citizens of the sprawling, rural district, Webb puts emphasis on the role our government can ply to assist residents of small towns and rural communities including health care, education, infrastructure and the rural economy.

"To know David Webb is to vote for David Webb," asserts Dr. Wayne Spiggle, Mineral County Commissioner. Added John Athey, a young Keyser attorney, "David's steadfast commitment to serving others is unsurpassed."

A Burlington resident and Keyser businessman, Webb holds degrees from West Virginia University in civil engineering and law. He also holds a master's degree in environmental law.

Webb serves on the local board of Big Brothers Big Sisters and runs the Staggers/Webb Farm. He enjoys the outdoors, including camping, fishing, rock climbing and motorcycling.

Married to Mary Kaye Staggers, a professor of nursing at Potomac State College, Webb has served as troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America as well as a Sunday school teacher.

Webb, whose father was a coal miner and mother a school teacher, believes in his father-in-law, Harley Staggers Sr., "....if we have the political will to take care of the health and education of the people, then the people will take care of the state."

The West Virginia primary election will be held May 13. The general election is Nov. 4.
