Ruth Rowan seeking re-election to W.Va. House of Delegates

For the Cumberland Times-News

Editor's note: Delegate Ruth Rowan submitted this announcement for her candidacy.

POINTS, W.Va. - Delegate Ruth Rowan has filed for re-election to the West Virginia House of Delegates. Delegate Rowan represents the 50th District, which includes a large portion of Hampshire County and a portion of Mineral County. First elected in 2004, she was re-elected in 2006 and is now seeking her third term.

Her many duties at the Capitol include serving on two major committees, Education and Government Organization and two minor committees, Health and Human Resources and Political Subdivisions, where she serves as the minority vice chair.

In addition to these committee assignments, she also serves on the Health and Human Resources Subcommittee, examining issues as they relate to senior citizens and long-term care, and the Education Subcommittee on safety issues where she has helped to craft legislation pertaining to the safety of our children at school.

Recently, Delegate Rowan was chosen by the Speaker of the House to serve on the newly formed Select Committee on Senior Issues. This committee will be instrumental in formatting legislation addressing concerns regarding our aging population.

In October, Delegate Rowan was selected by Gov. Joe Manchin to serve as part of the West Virginia delegation to attend the Southern Regional Education Board meeting in Oklahoma City, Okla. The SREB develops education policy that affects the entire Southeast region of the United States.

As a member of the House of Delegates, she has co-sponsored legislation to protect our children, encourage students to succeed, to make life better for our seniors and create a brighter future for all West Virginians.
