Central Tech visits FH today

CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill will welcome a new opponent to its schedule at a new game time, as the Sentinels play host to the Central Tech Falcons, of Erie, Pa., today, 5:30 p.m., at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

The Sentinels (2-0) are coming off a big early-season win over Keyser, 24-7, and have taken the early lead in the Maryland 1A West Region standings, leading North Carroll by a half-point and Allegany by a point entering the weekend. Central Tech, a Class AAA school in Pennsylvania, is classified as a 3A school in Maryland.

The Falcons (1-2) lost last weekend to Slippery Rock, 21-6, losing two first-quarter fumbles inside their 30 that turned into short Slippery Rock touchdown runs. Tech’s only touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Calvin Franklin, who rushed for 50 yards on 11 carries. However, the Falcons gained just 88 yards on 26 carries for the game.

The Falcons opened the season with a 52-7 loss to Pittsburgh Obama, and won the following week over East Erie, 36-0.

Head coach Rob Matz is in his fifth season at Central Tech.

In Fort Hill’s 24-7 win over Keyser, quarterback Hunter Squires scored two touchdowns and Ty Johnson scored the other one, as the Sentinels took control in the third quarter of a game they led 14-7 at the half.

The Fort Hill defense was the key to the Sentinels’ late push, twice stopping Keyser inside the red zone, with linebacker Cody Dolly making two big plays in the third quarter. Head coach Todd Appel also credited interior linemen Preston Bryant, Brennan Carlin, Michael Wright, Cody Arigo, Josh Roberts and Rashaan Shives for helping the Sentinels take control of the game.

Alex Barnes rushed for 87 yards and Dekarai Darr 69 yards.
