FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Terrell McGraw exploded for five touchdowns and 245 total yards as Bishop Walsh clobbered Notre Dame, 58-14 at Fairmont State University on Friday night.
Walsh’s first sustained drive gave them a fourth and goal opportunity at the eight yard line. McGraw’s fade pass to Rhodes was broken up to turnthe ball over on downs. Two players later, Notre Dame quarterback Tony Sestito was struck by Quincy Redmon and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Darquel Jessie. On fourth and goal from the one, McGraw ran it in before thrrowing an incompletion on the conversion to make it 6-0.
With 6:15 left in the second quarter, Billy Conroy scored from six yards and also ran in the conversion to give Walsh a 14-0 lead.
After an interception by Liam Rhodes, McGraw scrambled 54 yards for the next touchdown, then threw the conversion to Rhodes to make it 22-0.
The subsequent drive by the Fighting Irish was stalled on a sack by Logan Talley. On the next play, Rhodes caught a 60-yard bomb from McGraw, Rhodes ran in the conversion to make it 30-0 with 0:50 left in the half. Notre Dame went three-and-out on the following possession, followed by Rhodes snatching a 38-yard touchdown pass out of the air from McGraw with 0:22 remaining.
McGraw ran in the conversion to give the Spartans a 38-0 advantage at halftime.
Notre Dame began the second half with the ball, but two plays in Sestito was picked off by Conroy. Walsh had second and goal on the two yard line when McGraw was intercepted in the end zone by Wakem Simon. However, McGraw avenged himself with a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown to make it 44-0.
The Fighting Irish turned it over on downs on its next possession, leading to a 12-yard touchdown scamper by Redmon, making the score 50-0.
Notre Dame’s first score came on the first play of the fourth quarter when Travis Paul ran it in from 21 yards. Dak Bramer scored for the Irish less than three minutes later on a 1-yard run to cut the lead to 50-14.
Raquan Weedon then reeled off chunks of yards leading to a touchdown making the final score 58-14.
Weedon ran for 73 yards on nine carries and Conroy finished with 79 yards on 10 attempts. Santino Cava led Notre Dame with 18 runs for 76 yards. Sestito passed for 79 yards on 6 of 18 and four interceptions.
The Spartans defense was in the Irish backfield all night, led by Redmon with 11 tackles and Trenton Swan with nine tackles and a sack. Joel Whetzel racked up three tackles and a sack, and Talley added two tackles and a sack.
Bishop Walsh is 5-0 and plays at St. Mary’s Ryken on Friday.
