Petersburg golfers cruise to victory

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Fred Roby shot a 40 to lead the field and the Petersburg Vikings to a convincing win in a quadrangular high school golf match Tuesday at the Valley View Country Club.

The Vikings, with a team score of 170, finished with a 19-stroke margin of victory, with Roby and Will George, who shot a 42, the top scorers.

Moorefield placed second with a 189, and was led by Aaron Freeman and Seth Mongold with 45s.

East Hardy grabbed third by shooting 210 and was led by Kolby Foltz with a 41. Mountain Ridge placed fourth with a score of 223. Seth Baer led the Miners with a 54.

Moorefield, East Hardy, Petersburg and Tucker County will play at Canaan Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Keyser downs Northern

MCHENRY — Keyser improved its record to 21-10 on the young season by beating Northern and Frankfort in a tri-match Monday evening at the Wisp.

The Golden Tornado was led by medalist of the day N. Wilson with a 37. C. Abernathy and E. Coleman both shot 40’s as the Golden Tornado shot a 162 as a team.

Northern finished second with a 171 team score. Austin Doerr led the Huskies with a 40, and Ed Herpel had a 41.

Frankfort finished third with a 180. J. Alt and D. Meyer had 42s.
