Northern finishes seventh at District

HAGERSTOWN — Northern finished seventh out of 19 teams last Tuesday at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown during the Maryland 2A/1A District I Golf Tournament.

The Huskies finished with a team score of 350, which was 33 strokes back from Smithsburg in first place. Fort Hill placed 14th with a score of 382, and Southern had a score of 394 for 17th. Mountain Ridge wound up at 470 for a 19th-place finish, and Allegany had an incomplete score.

Northern also had the two lowest individual scores of any area school with Austin Doerr and Ed Herpel both posting an 81, which tied them for 11th overall. Northern’s Mike Rugola had an 89 for the next-lowest area score.

Allegany’s Tyler Story scored a round of 91 to finish in a tie with Fort Hill’s Drew Morgan. Tyler Ewing had the lowest score for the Rams at 94. Nick Meneghini shot a 96 for the Sentinels, as did Southern’s Reese Duncan. The lowest Mountain Ridge score was by Evan Schutz with an even 100.

The Maryland 2A/1A State tournament will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, and Thursday, Oct. 23, at Potomac Ridge Golf Course.
