FROSTBURG — Sophomore Liz Seligman scored two goals and dished out four assists, and four teammates also scored two goals as second-seeded Frostburg State overpowered sixth-seeded Pitt-Bradford, 11-2, in their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s soccer semifinal Wednesday at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats (16-3) raced to a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back in winning their sixth in a row and 13th in the last 14. Frostburg State is 15-0 all-time against Pitt-Bradford (10-8).
Just prior to kickoff, FSU received a boost as fourth-seeded Penn State Altoona knocked off top-seeded Penn State Behrend, 1-0, in the other semifinal.
Frostburg State, as the highest remaining seed, will host Saturday’s championship game, at 3 o’clock, against Penn State Altoona in a rematch of last year’s final. It is the 11th straight title game appearance for the Bobcats.
Wednesday afternoon, Heather Fleishell scored two goals and Kierstin Stevenson, Amanda Wharton and Lauren Russell had one to help the Bobcats to the 5-0 halftime lead. Seligman assisted on both Fleishell goals. Wharton and Stevenson also had assists.
Eight goals were scored in the second half, and Stevenson got the first, for FSU, in the 49th minute. Seligman found Russell for her second score and Bradford accidentally headed a ball into its own goal to make it 8-0.
Erin Ford scored back-to-back goals to make it 10-0, and Kaleigh Herring capped the FSU scoring with a goal in the 72nd minute. Seligman assisted on one of Ford’s goals. Alexis Weller assisted on the final two.
Michelle Centola scored both Bradford goals, one a penalty kick, in the final 14 minutes.
