Hedgesville holds off Mountain Ridge

FROSTBURG — Jasmine Lewis hit a pair of free throws with 4:00 left in the third quarter to put Mountain Ridge ahead, 34-20, but Hedgesville would convert eight straight free throws and a basket with 50 seconds left in the period to get to within 36-30 on its way to a 48-41 victory over the Miners Monday night at Mountain Ridge.
Grayson Brooks hit six of the eight free throws in the big run for Hedgesville, as well as the field goal to get the Eagles back into it. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles outscored Mountain Ridge, 18-5, with the Miners turning the ball over several times to help seal their fate.
Brittany Boarman scored 16 points for Hedgesville, while Jess Mason and Brooks both scored 10. Hedgesville made 14 field goals and was 18-for-28 from the free-throw line.
For Mountain Ridge, Madi Nightengale scored 19 points, and Danielle McGinnis scored 16. The Miners hit 13 field goals and were 13-for-21 from the free-throw line.
Mountain Ridge (6-4) will host Southern Wednesday.
In Monday’s junior varsity game, Mountain Ridge topped Hedgesville, 28-23. Emily Greig scored 18 for Mountain Ridge, while Abby Crawford scored nine for Hedgesville.

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. — Shanksville led from the get go, but needed to hang on at the end for a two-point win over Salisbury Monday night.
Shanksville built-up a 13-4 lead by the end of the first quarter, and still led 17-10 at halftime. The third quarter ended with the score 23-19.
The Elks were led by nine points from Lynsey Kauffman, and Ashley Knauer added seven.
Shanksville was led by Lindsay Arden’s 10 points.
It was the first win for Shanksville, which improves to 1-8. Salisbury (0-8) will host Turkeyfoot on Wednesday.
Tygarts Valley 46
Petersburg 45

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Tygarts Valley took its first lead of the night with 40 seconds to play in the fourth quarter, and hung on for a one-point win over Petersburg Monday in Petersburg.
The Vikings had a chance to win when it shot a one-and-one with three seconds left, but missed the front end.
Nikki Sites finished with a double-double by scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brianna Wright scored a team-high 13 points and led the team with four steals. Whitney Lough scored eight points and added nine rebounds.
Cierra Riggleman scored 25 points to lead Tygarts Valley.
Petersburg (3-6) plays Wednesday at Tucker.
