CUMBERLAND - Fred Hamilton, vice president of the Dapper Dan Club of Allegany County, will be the recipient of the Peter J. Carpenti Memorial Award as the 2006 Dapper Dan Man of the Year during the 59th annual Dapper Dan Awards Banquet Sunday, Jan. 28, 5 p.m., at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club.
Hamilton, former baseball coach in the Dapper Dan Little League as well as in the girls softball league, is also a former player in the Dapper Dan baseball league, having played for the Tigers and being coached by Tony DeArcangelos. He also played for the Cumberland Elks in the Hot Stove League as well as the Allegany High Campers his senior season of 1967 before graduation.
Hamilton is a member of the board of trustees at Centre Street United Methodist Church, Cumberland, as well as the president of the Cumberland Democrat Club and vice president of the Cumberland Horseshoe League.
He has been involved in the YMCA Sunday School Basketball League for the past 19 years, having served as a scorekeeper, assistant and head coach, and for the past eight years has been gym supervisor for the Sunday School league as well as the High School Girls Basketball Summer League.
Hamilton graduated from the Institute of Computer Management, Baltimore, in 1968 and served in the United States Air Force as a dental specialist. He taught dental programs at Allegany College of Maryland before graduating from Montgomery College with a major in dental laboratory technology.
Since 1999, Hamilton has owned and operated Hamilton Dental Lab.
