Request forms needed from Rec Department for leagues/teams
CUMBERLAND — Any league and/or team wanting a field for practice or games must contact the Parks and Recreation Department and fill out a facility request form.
These forms may be picked up at the Parks and Recreation Department office located at 57 North Liberty Street or mailed out upon request by calling (301) 759-6635.
Silver Hoop Classic March 11-31
CUMBERLAND — The 24th annual Silver Hoop Classic basketball tournament will be played at Fort Hill High School in Cumberland from March 11-31.
Games will be played Monday through Friday nights and all day on Saturday and Sundays. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Fort Hill High School athletic teams.
Three hundred and ninety trophies will be presented during the tournament. Last year, over 70 teams from local and surrounding areas participated in the tournament.
The double elimination tournament is divided into 11 divisions for boys and girls. The boys divisions include from fourth grade up to 12th grade. The girls divisions are from sixth grade through 12th grade.
New for this year is a pee wee division for girls up to the fourth grade and a rookie division for boys and girls up to the second grade.

Frostburg State’s Romaine, Howze named to all-star team
FROSTBURG — Frostburg State University senior linebacker Lathon Romaine and junior tight end Fred Howze have been named to the 2006 Don Hansen Football Gazette All-South Region Team.
Romaine had 50 tackles, eight for loss, five pass breakups, three sacks, two recovered fumbles and one forced fumble this season. He posted a season-best nine tackles in a 20-10 loss to Apprentice and a 22-0 setback to SUNY Brockport.
Romaine was named to the All-Atlantic Central Football Conference first team in the fall.
Howze led the Bobcats with 334 receiving yards and a 37.1-yard per game average. He also finished tied for first on the team with 22 receptions and one touchdown, and set season highs in receptions (4) and yards (78) in the Bobcats 42-15 loss to rival Salisbury in the season finale.
Howze was a first-team All-ACFC selection and is currently on a streak with at least one reception in 21 straight games.
The Bobcats finished the year 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the ACFC.Tri-County coaches to meet
LONACONING — There will be meeting for all coaches of Tri-County Basketball League teams entering this year’s Gene Scaletta Memorial Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m., at Westmar High School.
