LONACONING - Jeremy Shingler homered in a four-run first inning and Tyler Stevens homered in a four-run second as Mountain Ridge jumped on Frankfort early and held on late for an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference win at Westmar.
Sean Fazenbaker smacked a triple and double and had two RBIs and Will Clauson added a pair of singles for the Miners (2-0 overall, 2-0 AMAC), who led 9-1 through three innings.
In the first inning, Marcus McGinnis singled and scored on a triple by Fazenbaker. Shingler followed with a home run to make it 3-0. Matt Farris singled and scored later in the inning on a Clauson single.
In the second inning, McGinnis walked and scored on a double by Fazenbaker. After a walk to Shingler, Stevens belted his three-run homer.
Josh Neilson pitched the first four innings, allowed only one hit, struck out six and did not walk a batter. Farris got the final three outs in the seventh for a save.
Frankfort, held to three hits, took advantage of walks and an error to score six runs over the fifth and six innings.
Ryan Shields and Jeff Conley doubled for Frankfort, with Conley's driving in two runs.
Frankfort hosts Northern on Thursday. Mountain Ridge will host Northern on Friday, 5 p.m., at Westmar.
