Fort Hill tops Allegany, 6-1

CUMBERLAND - Junior Shari Beavers pitched a no-hitter, allowing only a first-inning run that scored on a wild pitch, to lead Fort Hill to a 6-1 victory over Allegany and the City championship Tuesday at Long Field at the Constitution Park.

Beavers struck out 13 Campers and walked three on the day as she improved her record to 8-1 on the season.

The Sentinels, trailing 1-0, used a five-run third to gain control of the game. Beavers singled in two runs in the inning while Alex Schupfer doubled in a run. Olivia Stanley and Adria Lewis both had RBI singles in the inning.

Fort Hill added a run in the fourth when Lewis reached on an error to score Destiny James, who led off the inning with a single.

Beavers and Stanley both finished the game with two singles.

Hayley Stankan, freshman pitcher for the Campers, allowed just seven hits to the Sentinels.

Fort Hill (15-2 overall, 10-1 in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference and 4-0 in the City) will play at Mountain Ridge today at 4:30 p.m. A win for Fort Hill deliver the AMAC title outright. Allegany (13-4, 9-4 and 1-2) will host Hancock today at 4:30 p.m.
