Softball tourney still accepting entries
CUMBERLAND — Teams are still needed for the all-night softball tournament to be held at Mason’s Sports Complex on July 18.

Mtn. Ridge football parents to meet Tuesday
FROSTBURG — The Mountain Ridge Football Parents Association will meet Tuesday, 6 p.m., in the school cafeteria.

Bishop Walsh boosters to meet Tuesday
CUMBERLAND — The Bishop Walsh Athletic Association will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. New members are welcome to attend.
Snodgrass posts low score at shop game
CUMBERLAND — Jim Snodgrass won Wednesday’s Shop game at Cumberland Country Club by shooting a net 71.
Kevin Yost and Jim Donahue tied for second at 75. Gaylord Brooks (62) and Jim Buzzerd (64) were the low net scores. Pin winners were George Lapp on No. 6 and Dan Sheehe on No. 12.
Kesner team wins Mill Creek scramble
BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Terry Kesner, John Barger, Walt Simpson and Dallas Hite combined for a 56 to win the Mill Creek Country Club senior scramble on Thursday.
Taking second in a three-way cardoff with a 60 was the team of Russ Blubaugh, Charles Devault, Allen Whetzel and Mike McDowell. Third went to Rodger Fazenbaker, Dave Fazenbaker, Norm Groves and Ron Smith, and fourth were Joe Hil, Hefty Newlon, Jerry Butler and Monty Edwards.
Closest to the pins were Pot Coleman on No. 3, Hite on No. 4 and Tom Krogel on No. 8.
YMCA basketball clinic to begin Monday
CUMBERLAND — The Riverside YMCA is offering a fundamental basketball clinic for children in grades K-8. The five-day clinic will be held July 6-10 with play from 9 to 11:30 a.m. each morning. Time will be utilized working on basic game play and fundamentals of basketball while stressing the fun of the game.
The clinic will be directed by Olin Perkins. Fees are $60 for YMCA members and $75 for the community. For more information, call Laura McMahon at (301) 777-9622.
Reed, Lewis top field in one-mile run
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Joel Reed is not yet 13. And that makes a big difference.
An error in preliminary results showed Reed, 12, finishing in fourth place in the 13-and-older division of the Queen City Junior Striders 1-mile cross country run Tuesday at Frankfort High School.
In his proper 12-and-under age group, Reed was first among 57 others to get to the finish line with a time of 6 minutes, 42 seconds on the out-and-back course with challenging, uneven terrain. Canyon Lohnas, 12, of Frostburg, was second with a time of 7:16 and Brooks Mickey, 12, was third in 7:24.
Brayden Pennington, 12, placed fourth in 7:47 while Dakota Bierman, 11, rounded out the top five with a time of 7:48.
Marie Lewis, 10, was sixth overall and the first female to cross the finish line in the 12-and-under division. Elizabeth Lowe, 11, was two places and six seconds back in 7:55. Megan Lewis, 9, was third.
Jaron Hawkins, 26, of Frostburg, won the open 2-mile run in 12:32. Chris DeRosa, 18, also of Frostburg, placed second in 12:49 and Frankfort High School graduate Johnny Macklen, 17, was third in 13:03. Melanie Denton, 16, was the top female in the race and stopped the clock in 15:49.
Combined, the 1-mile run had 93 total finishers. The 2-mile run had 47 finishers, including 12 runners between the ages of 5 and 12.

Larrick team wins at Down River
EVERETT, Pa. — The team of Clint Larrick, Fred Myers, Bob Phares and Jim Kreiling won the Shriner’s Golf Outing at Down River Golf Course.
Don Kuhn, Jerry Robinette, Flip Mohler and Ivan Hall were second. Pin winners were Mohler (No. 2, 5, 13) Ebb Spiker (No. 15). The July 7 outing at Iron Masters has been canceled. The next outing will be at Black Rock in Hagerstown on July 21.
