BW seeks girls JV soccer coach

Allegany volleyball meeting July 8

CUMBERLAND —Any girl is interested in trying out for the 2008 volleyball season at Allegany High School who was not on the team last year should attend an informational meeting Tuesday, July 8, 5:15 p.m. in the school gym. For information, call (301) 876-3693.



All-Night softball tourney July 26

CUMBERLAND — A double elimination tournament will be held July 26 at the Eugene Mason/Riverside Complex.

There will be $150 entry fee and cash prizes will be awarded.

Davis team wins at Fore Sisters

RAWLINGS — JoAnn Davis, Bev Warnick and Lauretta Michaels shot a net 38 to win the Fore Sisters Wednesday Evening Ladies League.

Deb Mohler, Sharon Clark and Fran Whitman took second with a 41.

Bonnie Corley was closest to the pin on No. 7. The buffet will follow Wednesday’s, July 16, outing.



Hill group’s 60 wins at Mill Creek

BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Joe Hill, Allen Whetzel, Cliff Knotts and Dick Hutton shot a 60 to win the Mill Creek Country Club’s Senior Tournament in a card-off Thursday.

Finishing in second, also with a 60, was the foursome of Roger Fazenbaker, John Kady, Carols Reyes and Joe Heath. One shot back in third place was team of Ben Fout, Bob Shrout, Buzz Shrout and Lowell McDowell.

Tim Foley was closest to the pin on No. 3 (1 foot, 8 inches), Whetzel on No. 4 (17’1”) and Butch Souder on No. 8 (9’ 8”).



MLB tryouts Monday at ACM

CUMBERLAND — There will be a Major League Scouting Bureau Tryout Camp at Allegany College on Monday at 11 p.m.

All major league teams are represented by the bureau.



Martin, Donahue Shop winners

CUMBERLAND — Bob Martin won the net division with a 64, and Jim Donahue was first in the gross division with a 71 in the Cumberland Country Club Wednesday Shop Game.

In the net division, Sam Griffith was runner-up with a 65 and Randy Kammauf took third with 66. In a four-way tie for fourth with 67s were Terry Snider, Greg Hare, Ron Monahan and Bucky Butts.

Red Rice was runner-up in the Gross Division with a 73.

Closest to the pins were Harold Appel on No. 6, John Robinson on No. 10, and Scott Shire on No. 18.



Miller team wins Sisters scramble

RAWLINGS — Greg Miller, Mark Schartiger, Jim Powell and Jake Michaels shot a 29 to win Thursday evening’s 9-hole Red, White and Blue scramble at Fore Sisters Golf Course.

The scramble was modified with players using the red tees for the par 3s, the white tees on the par 4s and the blue tees on the par 5s.

Finishing second in a card-off with 30 was the team of Dale Cosner, Gary Bradfield, Jeff Campbell and Harry Grove.

Closest to the pin winners were Joe Kodman on No. 11, Bob Davis at No. 15 and Jim O’Sullivan on the 18th hole.



Hyett trio takes Pines MGA event

KEYSER, W.Va. — Eric Hyett, John Dean and Lee Garland shot a 64 to win the Men’s Golf Association’s tournament at Polish Pines Golf Club Thursday evening.

Finishing in second one shot behind with a 65 was the threesome of Jeremy Thompson, Wayne Longenecker and Bill Shepherd.

Closest to the pin winners were Dean (No. 2), Merle Ray (No. 4), Thompson (No. 6) and Kyle Chiaverini (No. 8).
