Fort Ashby Lions beats G&S Coal/NewPage, 5-3

Game three Friday at Hamilton Field

POTOMAC PARK - The Fort Ashby Lions scored three times in the first inning to get a head start on G&S Coal/NewPage Wednesday to win the second game of the Hot Stove opening round playoffs played at Hamilton Field.

Dalton Brown delivered the big hit for the Lions in the opening frame when he tripled home two runs. Aaron Lehman singled ahead of Brown, after another runner reached on a hit by pitch. Brown would come in to score on an error. Brown would single later in the game.

NewPage won game one 6-5 on Monday in extra innings. With the series tied at one game apiece, the deciding game will be played Friday, 5:30 p.m., at Holler Field.

G&S Coal (15.5-4.5) actually outhit the Lions 9-6. Cody Malone, Steve Holtschneider, Jacob Miller and A.J. Sawekis all had two singles each.

After Fort Ashby scored three runs in the first it made 4-0 in the second. G&S got one run in the third and got to within one at 4-3 in the top of the firth, but the Lions got an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning.
