Eagles spoil Salisbury’s comeback

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

POTOMAC PARK — Travis Milburn’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning generated the tying and winning runs as the Cresaptown Eagles came from behind to defeat Salisbury Legion 4-3 in the opening Hot Stove League semifinal best-of-three playoff game Monday at Hamilton Field.

Salisbury, which trailed 2-0 after the Eagles scored two first-inning runs, battled back to tie it with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. In the top of the seventh, Alex Menges led off with a double then stole third and later stole home to give Salisbury a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Chris Fram led off with a single and Kevin Myers followed with a base hit. After a double steal put Fram at third and Myers at second, Milburn’s base hit scored Fram for the tie. Milburn then took off for second and Salisbury try to make a stop on the play. Myers then bolted home and beat the play at the plate for the game-winner.

Myers went the distance for the victory, striking out eight and walking two. Mike Miller started for Salisbury and Nathan Hutzel relieved him in the fourth inning. The two combined for seven strikeouts and four walks.

Myers, Fram and Milburn each had two hits for the Eagles with one of Myers being a double. James Moellenkamp also had a double. Mike Miller led Salisbury with three singles and Brandon Miller tripled and Menges doubled.

The teams will meet again Wednesday at Holler Field beginning at 5:30 p.m.
