Moonshine 10K Classic Saturday
BIG RUN STATE PARK The Moonshine Classic 10K and 2-mile fun run/walk and picnic will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, at Big Run State Park in the Savage River State Forest.
Entry fee is $15 and all pre-registered participants will receive a Quarter-Zip Wind Jacket with a reflective trim and embroidered Moonshine logo on the left chest. On race day, jackets will be provided while supplies last.
Awards will be given for overall male and female runners and the top three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. The fun run/walks awards are: overall male and female and the first male and female finishers over 60.
A post-race picnic sponsored by the Queen City Striders will follow the awards ceremony. All are welcome. Interested parties do not have to participate in the run/walk to enjoy the picnic. The Striders are providing the meat and drinks and ask that those planning to attend to please bring something for all to enjoy.

PVAA holds fall baseball sign-up
CRESAPTOWN The Potomac Valley Athletic Association will be holding fall baseball registration Saturday. Aug. 1 at the Weber field pavilion at First Peoples Complex from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Any child who is four years old but does not turn 13 before May 1 2009 is eligible to register.

Miners mini-camp this week
LONACONING The Miners youth football team will hold their annual football mini-camp on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Westmar Middle School.
Any student in grades 6-8 living in the Mountain Ridge district for the upcoming school year is eligible to play and attend. Registration fees are due prior to receiving equipment. All players are to report.

Mountain Ridge golf event Aug. 1
FROSTBURG The second annual Ozzie Nelson/Mick Cunningham golf tournament will be held Friday, Aug. 1, at Maplehurst Country Club with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a hole or donating prizes should contact Bob Nelson at (301) 689-2974 or Mountain Ridge High School at (301) 689-3377.
All proceeds will benefit the athletic programs at Mountain Ridge High School. The tournament will feature a new car prize, donated by Billy Bender Chevrolet.
Soccer rules clinic Thursday
FROSTBURG The Maryland State Soccer rules clinic will be held Thursday at Mountain Ridge High School at 7 p.m. The clinic is mandatory for all new and returning officials, and all coaches are welcome to attend.
F Club picnic slated Aug. 15
CUMBERLAND The F Club picnic will be held Aug. 15, at 5 p.m. at the FOP Lodge. New and old members are welcome to attend. Dues are $25.

Metal Fabrication/ABL event set
CUMBERLAND The second Metal Fabrication/ABL Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 3 at the Cumberland Country Club. The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner and refreshments, with prizes being awarded.
The tournament is limited to 100 golfers. Corporate and individual sponsorships are available for $100 per hole. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the pediatrics waiting room at the new Western Maryland Health System hospital campus and Ali Ghan Shriners Travel Fund for Kids.

Moore team wins at Mill Creek
BURLINGTON, W.Va. Bob Moore, Ken Carvey, Charles DeVault and Joe Heath shot a 59 to win the Mill Creek Country Club Seniors golf outing.
Ben Fout, Bob Shrout, Buzz Shrout and Norm Leatherman were second with a 60; while Ron Smith, Dave Short, Monty Edwards and Harry Liken placed third at 62.
Smith (No. 3), Ben Fout (No. 4) and Curtis Clary (No. 8) were the pin winners.
FOP Lodge 90 holds golf outing
CUMBERLAND The Friend, Rozas and Kelly team of Steve Friend, Harold Appel, Bucky Butts and Red Rice shot a 55 to win the FOP Lodge No. 90 outing at Cumberland Country Club.
Gary Zembower, Jake Deremer, Bob Deremer and Mike Gearing were second at 58 playing for Woodchucks; and the Cumberland Firefighters No. 4 team of Steve Grogg, Buzz Davis, Chuck Koelker and Mike Savage shot a 61 for third.
Amel Morris (No. 1), Randy Kammauf (No. 10) and Davis (No. 18) were pin winners. Davis also had the long drive on No. 8, and Grogg had the straightest drive on No. 14.
Robinson duo first at Maplehurst
FROSTBURG The team of Kevin Robison and Donnie Rose finished with a net 126 to take first place in the Maplehurst Country Club Mens Golf Association two-man tournament July 26-27.
In second place, at net 131 1/2 were Mike Stevens and Aaron Stevens, while James Nigh and Jordan Hanna were third at 132 1/2
Finishing in first place in the gross division were Brett Davis and Bill Bond at 135.
Solonish team Sisters winner
RAWLINGS The team of Andy Solonish, Debbie Mohler, Fran Whitman and Marty Mohler shot a five-under 30 to place first in the Good Timers mixed league at Fore Sisters Golf Course.
The second-place team was Gary Wolford, Sonya Dressman, Pete Solonish, Ernie Whitman and Lauretta Michaels with a 32. Pin winners were Marty Rickelmann (No. 11), Debbie Mohler (No. 15) and Marty Mohler (No. 18).
