Marathon club to meet Monday
LaVALE — The Mountain Maryland Marathon Club’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, 6 p.m., at the Life Fitness Management on National Highway in LaVale.
The club, comprised of a core group of local running enthusiasts, is in charge of the inaugural Mountain Maryland Marathon slated for April 19, 2009. Contested events also include a half-marathon, a 5K for the United Way and a Kids’ Marathon. Pre-race festivities begin April 18 with a runners’ dinner and forum in downtown Cumberland.
One hundred percent of each runner’s entry for the 5K for the United Way (of the Potomac Highlands, which impacts Hampshire, Mineral, Allegany and Garrett counties) is donated to the nonprofit agency and impacts the local communities.
The club’s board of directors has a busy agenda for the 90-minute meeting, including the discussion of its new Web site, www.mountainMDmarathon.org, the acceptance of a new board member and contract discussion with the probable start/finish area in downtown Cumberland.
The board also is expected to determine a media event date to announce the Mountain Maryland Marathon’s title sponsor. Board members also are to discuss other 2009 events, including a New Year’s Day race, a Valentine’s Day race and the second annual Spring is Here! 10K in early April.
A full agenda will be available at the meeting, which is open to the public. For more information, e-mail Kevin Spradlin, MMMC executive director, at run@mountainMDmarathon.org, call 240-522-0276 or visit www.mountainMDmarathon.org.
