Southern golfers win AMAC title

Rams build 16-stroke edge; Northern’s Doerr takes individual honors

OAKLAND — Southern placed three golfers among the top six to run away with the team title, and Northern’s Austin Doerr shot a 76 to win the individual championship in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference golf tournament on Monday at the Oakland Golf Club.

Brady Donaldson shot an 81, Trevor Messenger had an 89 and Tyler Ewing a 90 to lead the Rams to the victory with a team score of 355 and a 16-stroke victory margin.

Fort Hill was second with 371, followed by Northern at 383, Frankfort at 388, Keyser with 404, Mountain Ridge with 438 and Allegany with 445.

Drew Morgan was low for Fort Hill with an 82, and teammate David Gornall shot a 91. Jeff Alt led Frankfort with a 91 and Charlie Abernathy was low for Keyser with a 93. Evan Schutz had a 99 for Mountain Ridge and Alex Wotaski led Allegany with a 98.

Southern (12-3) and Northern travel to Canaan Valley Resort for a match with Tucker County, Pocahontas County and Tygarts Valley on Thursday.
