Undefeated Bishop Walsh hosts Rappahanock, Va., today

CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh left little to the imagination last Saturday when the Spartans pounded Clear Spring for 433 rushing yards on its way to a 43-6 win.

First-year coach Mike Page has his team off to a 2-0 start, but winning 43-6 wasn’t enough.

“We appeared to be slow all over the field,” Page said after the win. “When we ran the ball we looked slow, when we passed we looked slow. Offense and defense, running backs and linemen.

“As a personal trainer I know that when you concentrate on conditioning it can sometimes cost you in your quickness. That’s something we’ll work on in practice.”

Slow or not, BW will try to make it 3-0 by beating a visiting Rappahanock County, Va. team looking to avenge a 23-6 loss last season to the Spartans.

Dylan D’Atri pushed his season total to 302 yards rushing by gaining 271 in the win over the Blazers. He needed only 16 carries, and had had three touchdowns.

Marshall Porter had a pair of four-yard touchdown runs, quarterback Jared Mathews ran a 28-yard touchdown, and Robbie Lehman scored on a 30-yard end around.

Rappahanock opened its season with a 26-12 victory over Clear Spring, then lost to East hardy 39-28 before beating Hancock 7-0. Last week Roanoke Catholic beat Rappahanock 34-6.
