Allegany Gridiron Club selling lottery tickets

CUMBERLAND - The Allegany Gridiron Club is selling tickets for a lottery, which will run during the entire month of October. The cost per ticket is $5.

The lottery winners are determined by the Maryland Night Pick Three numbers. Each time a number is drawn, the winner gets $50.

Tickets are being sold by Gridiron Club members and football parents and at all Allegany Campers football games.

Anyone interested in obtaining tickets may contact Carol Shearin at (301) 722-3035.

Shenandoah tops FSU tennis, 6-3

WINCHESTER, Va. - Caroline Shedd won a singles match and teamed with Amy Brenneman for a win in doubles to lead the Frostburg State women in their tennis match Wednesday at Shenandoah University.

Shenandoah won the match by a 6-3 score.

Shedd won two tiebreakers in defeating Jessica Clay in No. 3 singles 3-6, 7-6, 7-6. Shedd and Brenneman won the No. 2 doubles, over Lisa Almaraz and Amanda Blackman, by an 8-5 score.

Jenn Tolbert got FSU's other win, a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Oretha Grayson in No. 2 singles.

Frostburg State (4-7) hosts Chatham on Sunday at noon.

Steelers' Willie Parker to be at the Country Club Mall Sept. 29

LaVALE - Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker will make an appearance at the Country Club Mall Friday, Sept. 29. Sponsored by BT Sports Memorabilia of Frostburg, Parker will appear at Center Court from 6 to 8 p.m.

Autographs will be available on memorabilia and collectible pieces, with autograph fees varying depending on the size of the item autographed. A complete list of fees is available at the Guest Service Center at Center Court of the mall. Parker has agreed to a first-ever photograph session to the first 25 fans, with a fee applying.

Parker went from being an undrafted rookie free agent to becoming the Steelers' starting running back in their Super Bowl season of 2005. The back with 4.3 speed broke a Super Bowl-record 75-yard touchdown run in Super Bowl XL against the Seattle Seahawks.

In his first year as a starter, Parker rushed for 1,202 yards (the sixth highest total in team history) on 225 carries (5.8 avg.) and four touchdowns. He became the first Steelers rusher to gain 1,000 yards since Jerome Bettis did it in 2001 (1,072), and is the first back other than Bettis to rush for 1,000 yards since Barry Foster in 1992.

Hot Stove awards dinner Oct. 29

CUMBERLAND - The Cumberland Hot Stove League will hold its annual awards dinner Sunday, Oct. 29, 6 p.m., at the Hot Stove Bingo Hall, formerly the Ames Building, located on Industrial Boulevard.

All managers, coaches and award winners are invited to attend. The deadline for achievement awards and nominations for the James Conley Memorial Award is Oct. 1. Nominations can be turned in to any executive board member.

Reinhard-Fetchero shoot 63, take overall Best Ball title at CCC

CUMBERLAND - Mary Ann Reinhard and Angie Fetchero shot a 63 to win the Women's Golf Association's Nine-Hole Best Ball Scramble held Thursday at the Cumberland Country Club.

The Best Ball winners were Paula Brown and Serena Bae with a 35 and Janice Hare and Jill Cline took the Scramble title with a 27.

Cosner group captures tight Senior's Scramble at Mill Creek

BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Dale Cosner, Ed Orndorff, Bob Shrout, Gary Cosner and Joe Heath shot a 58 to capture the Mill Creek Country Club Senior's Scramble held Thursday.

Taking second one shot behind with a 59 was the foursome of Bob Moore, Dave Shrout, Norm Leatherman and Curtis Clary.

In third place with a 60 was the team of Paul Kelly, Bob Dorsey, Dick Hutton and Norm Groves.

Closest to the pin winners were Bob Reeves on No. 3 (3-foot, 1 1/2 inches), Joe Gignac (No. 4, 1'-11") and Dick Hutton (3'-2").

There will be a cookout Thursday.

Amezcua team wins scramble

RAWLINGS - The team of Mike Amezcua, Mark Schartiger, Jeff O'Neal and Jerry Robinette won a nine-home scramble at Fore Sisters Golf Course.

Second place went to Kevin Logan, Shaun Knotts, Steve Wilkinson and Herb Barmoy after losing a card off. Pin winners were Gene Rowe (no. 4), Bob Davis (No. 7), Rich Parson (No. 9). Closest second shot on the first hole was John Stakem.

Southern golfers beat Keyser behind Fike's 36; Kidwell fires 37

OAKLAND - Southern defeated Keyser, 163-199, in high school golf play Thursday at Oakland Golf Club.

Seth Fike shot a 36 for Southern, while Ryan Martin shot a 40. Travis Kidwell shot 37 for Keyser.

Southern (27-3) will play the Garrett County Championship Monday at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, then play the District Tournament Tuesday at Black Rock.
