Mount St. Joseph’s visits Alco tonight

CUMBERLAND — Allegany seeks to rebound from a deflating loss last week to Keyser by facing Greenway Avenue newcomer Mount St. Joseph’s tonight at 7 p.m.

The Campers held Keyser to 61 yards of offense in the first half, but the Golden Tornado threw up a 20-point second half, including two scores in a 59-second span, and had 200 yards in the second half.

J.D. Hook had an outstanding night with 206 yards on 22 carries, and had an 85-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Allegany would finish with a total of 212 yards rushing.

Hook’s touchdown, and a 31-yard field goal from John Carpenter accounted for Allegany’s 10-0 halftime lead.

The Campers had struggles with handling the ball, fumbling a total of seven times. Though they lost only two, the other five cost them field position. Allegany also threw a pair of interceptions.

After falling behind in the third quarter, Allegany retook the lead on a halfback pass from Dustin Wharton to Ryan Kane with 10:03 left in the fourth quarter.

The Campers struggled with the big plays on the following Keyser drive that needed just three minutes to go 80 yards and get the winning touchdown.

Shawn Metheny had an interception, and Hook and Melvin Tyson recovered fumbles.

The Gaels are 3-0 this season and are coming off a 28-12 win over Georgetown Prep. Mt. St. Joe’s finished 6-4 last season, but lost three all-state players to graduation.
