First Autumn Harvest golf tournament Oct. 18

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — The First Autumn Harvest Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Valley View Golf Course.

The tournament will benefit the Hampshire High School animal and veterinary science program. It will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start with a four-man best ball scramble format and anyone 60 or older will be allowed to play from the gold tees.

Half a hog will be awarded to the closest to the pin winners on the course’s five par 3s. The longest drive winner will receive $100 and Mayhew Chevrolet will award a car for a hole-in-one on select holes.

The winning team will win $600 and the runnerup will receive $400.

The cost is $240 a foursome and there will be a barbecue following play.

YMCA indoor soccer registration open through October 31

CUMBERLAND — Registration for the YMCA Winter Indoor Soccer League will be open until Friday, Oct. 31 or when all time slots for games are full. A copy of a birth certificate or driver’s license is required with registration. All team and individual registration information is available at the YMCA or online at www.cumberlandymca.org .

Wolford’s 3 TDs lead Warriors to 38-0 win over Oakland Rams

CUMBERLAND — Madison Wolford helped the Knippenberg Insurance Warriors remain undefeated heading into this weekend’s Cumberland Area Youth Football action with a 38-0 win over the Oakland Rams.

Wolford scored on three of his seven carries, and had 141 rushing yards for the Warriors. He scored on runs of 81, 18 and 32 yards, and finished with 11 tackles on defense. Payton Hedrick had a 15-yard touchdown run and David Wagus added a three-yard score while also recovering a fumble.



Grasshoppers to play at The Wisp

BURLINGTON, W.Va. — The next Western Maryland Grasshoppers outing will be Tuesday at The Wisp Resort.

Tee times are for 11 a.m., and players should be at the course no later than 10:30 a.m. Players will meet at McDonalds and Chick-Fil-A at 9 a.m. Players must call Frank Shepherd at (304) 738-1559 no later than 9 p.m. Sunday night to sign-up.



Sentinel Soccer Spirit Night Tuesday

CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill men’s soccer hosts Southern on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

The jayvee game begins at 5:45 and the varsity game will start at 7:30 p.m. That game will be Spirit Night for the Sentinels. All kids wearing their JCP soccer jerseys will receive free admission with a paying adult.

The Fort Hill Band will also be present. Fort Hill students are encouraged to attend the game and show their School Spirit in support of the Soccer teams!

Prizes will be given throughout the night for the most Spirited fans.



PG shuts out ACM, 4-0

UPPER MARLBORO — Julio Tovar scored two second half goals to separate Prince George’s from Allegany College of Maryland in a 4-0 win Saturday in Upper Marlboro.

Tovar, who also assisted on one goal in the first half, scored on an unassisted goal in the ninth minute of the second half. He put the finishing touches on with his second goal at 33:14.

Mike Edwards finished with nine saves as the Trojans goalkeeper.

ACM will host Frederick at home, 4 p.m., on Tuesday. The Trojans are now 2-6-1.



Lynchburg field hockey jumps on top FSU early, wins 5-2

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Lynchburg scored four first-half goals including a pair from Allie Weir as it defeated Frostburg State 5-2 in field hockey, Saturday.

The loss drops the Bobcats to 8-3 overall on the season and ends their three-game winning streak. The Hornets are now 8-4 with their fifth-straight win.

LC scored the game's first four goals, but FSU answered with back-to-back tallies to cut the deficit to 4-2. Lynchburg capped the scoring with a goal at 62:55 to seal the win.

Weir put the hosts on the board just 3:52 into action with the game's first score off an assist from Erin Funkhouser. Six minutes later, Jordan Warrington extended the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal.

Weir struck again in the 20th minute with her 18th goal of the season and Caitlin Gibb found the net in the 32nd minute as Lynchburg held a 4-0 edge.

Sophomore Breanne Russell scored for the Bobcats just before the half off a pass from classmate Brooke Tapman as FSU trailed at the break 4-1.

Freshman Sami Topolski further cut into the Lynchburg lead at 53:48 as she scored off an assist from senior Michelle Frost.

Gibb sealed the victory for the Hornets as she netted her fifth goal of the season at 62:55.

FSU's Samantha Foland made six saves while suffering just her third loss of the season.

Frostburg State travels to Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow for a game at 2 p.m.
