OAKLAND — Bryson Knox, Kody Sanders and Brandon Pritt scored touchdowns and the Southern defense kept Petersburg bottled up all night as the Rams overpowered the visiting Vikings.

Southern (2-3) wasted little time in getting on the board, putting together an eight-play drive to score on its first possession.

Knox reached the end zone on a one-yard plunge, and Brutus Scheffel’s run gave the Rams an 8-0 lead with 8:01 left in the opening period.

Sanders scored in the second quarter, also on a one-yard run, with 11 minutes left. Again Scheffel ran for the conversion, giving the Rams a 16-0 halftime edge.

Scheffel set up the only touchdown in the second half by pouncing on a Petersburg fumble at the Vikings 46 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter.

Five plays later the Rams were celebrating after Brandon Pritt’s seven-yard touchdown run, which made it 22-0 with 1:54 left in the period.

Travis Skeweris ran 12 times for 64 yards and Scheffel nine times for 61 yards to lead the Southern offense. Ryan Bennett had nine tackles and Pritt seven to lead the Rams defense, which held Petersburg to 77 yards. In addition to Scheffel’s fumble recovery, Sanders had a second-half interception.

The Rams host Keyser and Petersburg (0-6) visits Frankfort on Friday.
