Fazenbaker helps Mountain Ridge roll over BW

FROSTBURG — Stephanie Fazenbaker scored three goals and assisted on three others for a nine-point evening as top-ranked Mountain Ridge overpowered Bishop Walsh, 10-0, in high school girls soccer Saturday night.

The Miners notched their 10th shutout of the year, and eighth in a row, in improving to 12-0. Bishop Walsh fell to 6-8-1.

Mountain Ridge scored four goals in the first eight minutes to take control quickly. Fazenbaker scored the first two, 1:05 and 4:55 into the match, with Shyler Phillips and Nicole Nightengale getting assists. McGinnis scored unassisted at the 5:33 mark, and Kristin Knotts scored on a header after taking a pass from Fazenbaker to make it 4-0 with eight minutes elapsed.

Ashleigh Colmer scored off a pass from Quincy Hegeman for the final first-half goal at the 23:41 mark.

Fazenbaker opened the second half by scoring on a feed from Keri Bean, and McGinnis scored on an assist from Fazenbaker to make it 7-0 at 13:50. Corrie Ferree scored after taking a pass from McGinnis, Janelle Walbert found the net on an assist from Fazenbaker, and Jessie Dawson scored unassisted to complete the scoring.

The Miners led in shots, 31-8, and corner kicks, 7-1. Heather Shipe had six saves and Taylor Cutter two in goal for Mountain Ridge. Chaise Crossland had 14 for BW.

The Mountain Ridge jayvees also remained unbeaten, winning 11-0. Emily Greig had three goals, Madi Nightengale, Kim Crowe and Kaylee DeVore two, and Elizabeth Diamond and Paige Wagner one for the Miners. Amber Ravenscroft had three assists.

Mountain Ridge hosts Allegany in its final regular-season home game on Monday. The jayvees play at 6 and the varsity at 7:30. BW plays at Hancock on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
