HS Golf: Maryland state golf tournament begins today

COLLEGE PARK - Four area high school golfers will be competing in the Maryland Class 2A/1A state tournament today, at 9 a.m., at the University of Maryland golf course.

Fort Hill's Travis Bothast and Celeste Bartlett, Beall's Tanner Nelson and Allegany's Madison Martin qualified for the state tournament as a result of their performances in the West Regional at Black Rock Golf Course.

Bothast and Nelson qualified by shooting 78s in the regional two weeks ago.

The state tournament begins today with an 18-hole semifinal round. Boys and girls finishing in the top one-half of the field return on Wednesday for the final round. Overall results are based on cumulative scores from the semifinal and final rounds.
