Hancock girls beat Fort Hill in shootout

CUMBERLAND — Hancock edged Fort Hill in the first round of the Maryland 1A West Regional Playoffs by winning an overtime shoot-out Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
The Panthers took the first lead when Makayla Castle scored unassisted with 2:22 left to play in the first half. Hancock would hold that lead until 5:43 left in the second when Antigony Trevey made good on a penalty kick.
The teams played two scoreless 10-minute overtime period before going to the penalty kick shoot-out.
Hancock got three goals from Cary Hess, Castle and Josie Sornsoni; while Fort Hill made two. Amanda Meneghini and Martika Trimble made their penalty kick.
The Sentinels had over twice as many shots (28-13) as did the Panthers, and had seven corner kicks to two from Hancock.
Alyssa McTaggart had three saves, and Ashley Stumbaugh stopped 10 shots for the Sentinels.
Fort Hill finishes the season with a record of 6-8-1.
