Hampshire roars back, wins 39-31

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Hampshire scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, getting two touchdowns in the final two minutes, to turn the tables on Washington and escape with a 39-31 win in their final home game of the season.
Hampshire dominated on the ground to the tune of 313 rushing yards. Steve Wilson and Brent Walter each scored twice, and Jordan Nelson returned an interception 55 yards for six points. Walters would rush for 114 yards, and added 70 more as the recipient of Phil Malick passes.
Walters had a one-yard run to tie the score at 31 with 1:48 left in the fourth quarter. The Trojans squibbed the following the kick and lucked out when the Patriots fumbled at their own 30-yard line. Walter scored a five-yard touchdown that gave Hampshire the lead with 1:05 left.
Washington opened a 13-0 lead by scoring twice in the first quarter. Receiver Markee Smith caught an 18-yard pass from Bradley Jackson for the first points, and Jackson took off for a 62-yard run for the second score.
Hampshire’s Wilson got the Trojans out of the shutout with a touchdown of four yards before Smith caught a 29-yard pass from Jackson to make it 19-6 at halftime.
Nelson’s interception return made it 19-12, and Hampshire knotted the score when Wilson added a two-yard run. Dylan Nick got the lead back for Washington with a one-yard run 20 seconds before the end of the third. Jackson added an 80-yard run early in the fourth quarter to but the Pats lead at 31-19.
A 19-yard pass from Malick to his cousin Spencer Malick accounted for the first touchdown of the fourth quarter.
Jackson led all rushers with 175 yards, and added 63 passing. Nick rushed for 132 yards.
Brandon Bell made a interception for the Trojans that sealed the outcome late in the fourth.
Hampshire (5-4) will finish the regular season at Frankfort on Friday.
Southern 20
Bishop Walsh 0
OAKLAND — Southern got the ground game going, and Joe Kisselovich came up with the big plays on defense as Southern grabbed its third win Friday night over a visiting Bishop Walsh.
Corey Sanders rushed for 98 yards on 20 carries, and Brutus Scheffel added 80 yards on 18 carries to go with a pair of touchdowns scored as the Rams rushed for 231 of their 246 yards of offense.
Scheffel made the first trip to the end zone on a two-yard run at 3:27 of the first quarter. He scored the final touchdown on a 6-yard run in the fourth. Southern’s second touhdown was a pass from Bubba Scheffel to Jeremy Sharpless for 15 yards.
Kisselovich forced one of four Spartan fumbles, and added three sacks and five tackles. Of the four Bishop Walsh fumbles, Southen recovered three.
The Spartans were led in rushing by Forrest Lindeloff, who had 41 yards on nine carries. Quincy Redmon had three catches, 30 yards rushing and made 10 tackles in a well-rounded effort. He also recovered a fumble.
Southern (3-6) looks to halt a 7-game losing streak to it’s rival when it visits Northern on Friday at 7 p.m. Bishop Walsh (5-4) finishes the season on Friday at Hancock.
