Frederick comeback sinks PSC

FREDERICK — Channing Watts was perfect in 17 trips to the free-throw line and finished with 26 points to lead Frederick past Potomac State, 87-79, in the consolation game of the Goodwill Tournament Sunday at Frederick Community College.

The Cougars trailed 44-31 at halftime, but put up 56 second-half points and finished 35-for-41 from the foul line. Jesse Hildebrand had 22 points and was 8-for-11 from the line, and Naomi Campbell had 18 points and was 6-for-6 from the line.

Watts made 16 of her 17 free throws in the big second half.

Five Potomac State players scored in double figures, led by Chelsea Holcomb with 16 points. Brittany Skyles had 15, Erica Ford 12, Tylesa Harper-Scott 11 and Tarin Harper-Scott 10. Skyles also had five rebounds and four steals. Ford had five rebounds and Holcomb four steals.

The Catamounts (1-2) host Allegany College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

In Saturday’s first-round game, Dohnay Danice had 28 points and Ashley Robbins 20 as Delaware Tech pulled away from Potomac State in the second half for an 80-66 win.

Skyles led Potomac State with 27 points and five assists. Tiana Mitchell had 12 points.

Potomac State stayed within seven points early in the first half, and trailed by eight (33-25) at halftime. The largest Delaware Tech lead was 18 points in the second half.
