Keyser visits Magnolia today

Game is rematch of last year’s second round upset

NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. — Revenge will be on the table this afternoon when seventh-seeded Keyser travels to play Magnolia in the second round of the West Virginia Class AA Playoffs a year after the Blue Eagles upset the Golden Tornado in the second round of last year’s playoffs.

Last weekend, Keyser (8-3) had two runners go over 100 yards in beating Point Pleasant 29-6 at Alumni Field at Tornado Alley. Fullback Scott Kitrell rushed for 148 yards and David Echartea added 128 more. Kitrell scored on a 45-yard run to begin the fourth quarter.

The score was locked at six deep into the second quarter when Keyser caught a break on a snap that went over the Point Pleasant punter’s head and out of the end zone for a safety. A nice return on the free kick set Keyser up with a short field, and got a 33-yard pass from Tyler Biser to Kadeem Garland with 1:40 left in the first half.

Logan DelSignore accounted for the final Tornado touchdown by recovering another bad snap in the end zone.

Magnolia destroyed Roane County 57-8 last week and is the No. 2 seed in Class AA. Last year the Blue Eagles pulled the upset when Keyser entered the playoffs as the top seed, but suffered a 23-19 loss as Magnolia played its way to the championship before losing to Grafton.
