Gettysburg pulls away from Frostburg

FROSTBURG — Gettysburg College began the second half with a six-point spurt to open up a double-figure lead and hold off Frostburg State the rest of the way to win the Jim Crawley Tip-Off championship 63-56 Saturday at Bobcat Arena.

Lauren Dadigan was 5-for-5 from the field and had 12 points, Sara Kinsley had 11 and tournament MVP Caitlin Moser 10 for Gettysburg, which shot 15-for-16 from the free-throw line. Courtney Fields had nine points and six rebounds and Allie Drechsler seven points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals.

Caryn Wright led Frostburg State (2-1) with 12 points and six rebounds. Elizabeth Carrington had 11 points and Brittany James nine points and eight rebounds.

The Bullets (2-0) led 30-27 at halftime, and the eight-point run put the margin at 38-27.

In the consolation game, Ann Seufer scored 17 points to lead Guilford College over Wilkes University 68-54.

Named to the all-tournament team were James of Frostburg, Fields and Moser of Gettysburg, Seufer of Guilford and Lindsey Gosse of Wilkes.

FSU plays at Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday.

FROSTBURG — Brittany James posted her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead Frostburg State past Guilford (N.C.) in the opening round of the Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament .

Gettysburg (Pa.) defeated Wilkes 83-40 in the other first-round game.

Lisa Byer hit a three-point shot early in the second half to give Frostburg State (2-0) a lead it would not relinquish against Guilford (1-1).

Elizabeth Carrington had made two foul shots at the close of the half to tie it, 39-39, at the break. Byer’s three-pointer put FSU on top 42-39.

Carrington finished with 12 points, Byer had 11 and Jackie Kimmel 10 for Frostburg State. Alexa Williams had 19 points for Guilford.

In the second game, Caitlin Moser scored 20 points to lead Getttysburg over Wilkes.
