Allegany whips Southern Maryland

CUMBERLAND — Melissa Ford had game highs with 17 points and six steals, and Kacey Kahl had a double-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and three assists as Allegany routed Southern Maryland 96-29 in a Maryland JUCO Conference game at Bob Kirk Arena.

The Trojans rebounded from a tough three-point loss at Hagerstown with a strong all-around team performance. They led 42-16 at halftime.

“It was nice to get back home and play a pretty nice ballgame,’’ said ACM coach Jerry Rice. “I was really pleased with our defensive intensity. We played every bit as hard in the second half as we did in the first.

“Southern Maryland is a team that beat us last year, and I’m happy for the overall team win and contributions from all 11 players.”

Jennifer Wills had 13 points and eight rebounds and Jasmine Blanks 10 points and three assists for the Trojans (5-1, 1-1 Maryland JUCO). Ford also had eight rebounds. Lindsay Holliday added nine points and four steals, DeeDee Reese had six points and six assists,and Courtney Crislip six points and six rebounds.

Allegany plays at Garrett in a conference game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
