RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Mary Lee Houdersheldt, 88, of Ridgeley, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at the Allegany County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Dec. 3, 1920, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alfred W. Ridgeley and Olive (Abe) Ridgeley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Noah Ellis Houdersheldt, on July 13, 1980; one brother, Donald Ridgeley; one daughter, Ann Dolly Johnston; three grandsons, Jeffrey Dolly, Robert Noah Brooke, and Robert Houdersheldt Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Kelly Lee Sines; two stepbrothers, Junior and Oscar Ridgeley, and her stepmother, Ella Ridgeley.

Mary Lee was a homemaker and was an avid bingo player. She enjoyed attending several of the local bingo games around Cumberland. She also loved cats and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Olive E. Day, of Cumberland, Carol M. Griffith and husband Chuck, of Ridgeley, W.Va., and Sherry L. Hawkins and husband Joel, of Norman, Okla.; three sons, Richard E. Houdersheldt, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Carl D. Houdersheldt and wife Bonnie, of Cumberland, and Robert E. Houdersheldt, of Oldtown; one stepsister, Ella Smith, of Albright; several grandchildren great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Benny R. Brakeall officiating.

Interment will be in Abe Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Day, Michael Omps, Buddy Griffith, Kevin Griffith, Eric Griffith and Aaron Morozek.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Allegany County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care of our mother.
