Hagerstown holds off Allegany

HAGERTOWN - Kelvin Bright scored 33 points and offensive rebounding helped Hagerstown hold off Allegany College of Maryland 89-84 Sunday afternoon in JUCO men's basketball action in Hagerstown.

Bright had nine field goals, including two three-pointers, and was sharp from the free-throw line hitting 13 out of 17 shots. QMonte Matheny added 12 points and Anthony Perez scored 10.

"Hagerstown beat us on the boards," said Allegany head coach Mike Baker. "They got a lot of put backs.

"We got back into the game because of our intensity, but turnovers and foolish fouls at the end hurt us."

George DeGroat led the Trojans with 29 points on 12 baskets and 5-for-8 from the line. He also led with 12 rebounds. Tarelle Jackson finished with 25 points with four three-pointers and Ryan Burtz scored 12. Ru White, who had seven points, had four blocked shots.

Hagerstown (13-4) led 43-35 at halftime.

Allegany (8-10 overall, 7-4 Maryland JUCO), visits Prince Georges on Wednesday. Hagerstown hosts the College of Southern Maryland also on Wednesday.
