Medaille beats FSU

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Medaille used a strong shooting performance in the second half to blow open a close game and down visiting Frostburg State 80-69 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game on Saturday.

Medaille (12-7 overall, 7-5 AMCC) led by only two at the half, then shot 69 percent (18-of-29) in the second half in getting its sixth straight win.

Kelly Condello and Kyle White came off the bench to lead the Mavericks. Condello led all players with 19 while White added 14 and had three three-point goals.

Jade Belt led the Bobcats (5-14, 4-8) with 16 points while Brian Green had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. Jamal Bracken added 11 points.

The Mavericks won the battle in the paint as they outscored the Bobcats 46-20 and held a 34-27 edge in rebounding.

Belt gave FSU a nine-point lead (11-2) five minutes into the game. At 8:27, Medaille's Ricky Reed gave the Mavericks their first lead at 22-21. Medaille led by as many as six late in the half, and was on top 36-34 at the break.

In the second, Belt cut the FSU deficit to just one (49-48) with 11:52 to play, but the Mavs went on a 15-2 run to open a 14-point lead and put the game out of reach.

FSU plays at La Roche on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
