Garrett beats Rockville, 83-81

MCHENRY — Shawn Greenfield score 22 points and helped Garrett College overcome Montgomery Rockville’s furious rally to defeat the Knights 83-81 in overtime Saturday afternoon at Garrett.

The Lakers (15-6, 9-4 Maryland JUCO) blew a 19-point lead with 16 minutes to go in the second half.

“You have to give all the credit to Rockville,” said Garrett head coach Dennis Gibson. “They stayed methodical, ran their offense and started getting their shots.”

Rockville took a two-point lead at 70-68 with less than a minute to go when Greenfield hit a basket with 15 seconds remaining that forced overtime.

In the extra period, Garrett jumped out to a five-point lead and never trailed in getting the two-point victory.

Rico Siler finished with 17 points, Myron McGowan had 16 and Dale Taylor, who came off the bench, finished with 11.

Rockville’s Balil Baisa, held to only eight points in the first half, sparked the Knights in the second half and finished with a game-high 31 points. Nicholas finished with 20 and Armstrong scored 11.

“Siler played an unbelieveable game on Nicholas,” Gibson said.

Garrett hosts Hagerstown Thursday evening. “As far as the standings go, I think this is a must-win game for us,” Gibson said.
