Lee powers AC to 93-76 win

CUMBERLAND - Calvin Lee dominated play with 26 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots in helping power sixth-seeded Allegany College to a 93-76 win over 11th-seeded Harford in the opening round of the Maryland JUCO tournament Tuesday night at Bob Kirk Arena.

Lee, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, hit 10 field goals and six of eight foul shots for the Trojans (13-13). The 26 points and 19 rebounds were season highs.

George DeGroat, Ru White and Ryan Burts added 13 points for Allegany. Burts dished out eight assists and White had seven.

While happy with the win, AC coach Mike Baker knows his team can play much better. He said the players know it, too.

"Defensively, we didn't play well. We gave up too many easy shots. Calvin Lee rebounded well, but we didn't as a team,'' he said.

"The players know we can play better. We were just coming off a great game against Hagerstown and maybe had a bit of a letdown. But we'll need to get our intensity up a little more than what we had tonight when we play Hagerstown again on Friday."

Torey Fassett led Harford with 24 points.

Allegany plays Hagerstown on Friday, in a 3 p.m. quarterfinal at Frederick. The Trojans beat the Hawks 76-66 in the regular-season finale on Saturday.

Hagerstown beat Dundalk last night 108-67.
