Garrett downs Westmoreland

Lakers open conference play tonight

YOUNGBLOOD, Pa. - Four Garrett scored in double figures as the Lakers ended an eight-day layoff by defeating Westmoreland County Community College 76-62 Tuesday evening.

Shawn Greenfield scored a team-high 15 points, Dale Taylor added 14, Glenn Izevbigie had 11 and Reco Siler 10 for the Lakers.

Garrett (5-2) will play its first Maryland JUCO contest of the season tonight, at 7:30, when it hosts Harford Community College.

The Lakers led by 12 points (33-12) at halftime and had as much as a 22-point lead in the second half. The Wolfpack got as close as 10 points with 1:19 to play, but Vladimir Nikolov made four free throws down the stretch to prevent the score from getting any closer.

"Our team needs to understand how to play harder. We were the more talented team, but they played harder and put themselves into position to possibly get a win," said Garrett coach Dennis Gibson.

J.T. Lewis scored eight points for Garrett, and was credited by Gibson as a sparkplug for the Lakers offense.

Shane Dickert had a game-high 17 points and Eric Jansen added 13 for Westmoreland.
