Garrett wins 3rd straight, downs Dundalk, 82-75

DUNDALK — Dale Taylor hit five three-point goals and scored 23 points to lead a solid team performance that carried Garrett College to an 82-75 victory over CCBC-Dundalk in a Maryland JUCO Conference game Friday night.

The win was the third in a row and fifth in six games for coach Dennis Gibson’s Lakers, now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Dundalk fell to 4-5 and 2-2.

Myron McGowan had 13 points, Shawn Greenfield 11 points and six assists, and Terrance Taylor eight points and seven rebounds for Garrett. Glen Izevbigie added nine points and J.T. Lewis had eight rebounds, five assists and four points.

Anthony Baglin had a game-high 25 points for Dundalk. Ricardo Laing made five three-pointers and finished with 21 points.

“I’m really proud of our team effort. Everybody really contributed,’’ said Gibson. “We’ve talked about how we’re more of a team than individual players. We’re a good, balanced team and in this game our guys showed that.

“We did a good defensive job on Baglin, who had only nine points in the second half and is leading the conference in scoring with a 27-point average.”

Garrett withstood a Dundalk rally with clutch foul shooting as the Lakers’ final six points came on seven tries from the free-throw line. Dale Taylor, Greenfield and Reco Siler hit two free throws each in the final minutes.

Garrett will host the Railey Realty Hoopfest next Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15-16. On the opening day, Potomac State plays Delaware Tech at 5:30 and Garrett faces the West Virginia Wesleyan jayvees at 7.

On Sunday in the Classic format, Potomac State plays the Wesleyan jayvees at 1 o’clock, and Garrett battles Delaware Tech at 3.
