ACM pulls away from Harford

CUMBERLAND — Allegany College of Maryland jumped out to an 11-2 lead and rolled over Harford, 87-63, in a Maryland JUCO Conference game on Saturday night at Bob Kirk Arena.

Freshman forward Ru White scored 18 points to lead five Allegany players in double figures as the Trojans lifted their record to 4-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference with their third straight win. Calvin Lee added 17 points, George DeGroat 15, T.J. Granger 13, and Ryan Burts 11.

Harford was led by James Pee, who had 18 of his game-high 26 points in the first half. Rashawn Alexander added 15 points, and Terrell Jones 12. The Owls fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in Maryland JUCO.

The teams were tied at 2-2 when the Trojans went on a nine-point run. Harford closed to within one pont (16-15) with 12:21 left in the opening half, but could never take the lead. Allegany led 41-28 at halftime.

“We try to get the guys not to be satisfied with getting the lead, but to build on it. We did that in the second half,” said Allegany coach Mike Baker. “They were averaging 90 points a game and giving up 88 so I told our players, if they were patient they would get good shots.”

A layup by Granger pushed the lead to 20 points (74-54) with six minutes left. The final score was the biggest lead.

Allegany will play at Baltimore City CC in a Maryland JUCO game on Monday at 7 p.m
