Waynesburg whips Frostburg

Green named to Marietta all-tournament team

MARIETTA, Ohio — Three players scored in double figures, with Brian Green and Jade Belt getting a team-high 23 points, but Waynesburg proved too much for Frostburg State, winning 91-79 on the second day of the 37th annual Marietta Shrine Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets (5-5) scored 55 points in the first half to put the Bobcats (2-9) away early and avenge an early season loss. FSU outscored Waynesburg in the second half 46-36 but couldn't overcome the first-half deficit.

Green earned all-tournament honors after scoring 43 points in the two games of the tournament. Against Waynesburg, he also handed out seven assists and added five rebounds and three steals.

Belt had an outstanding game in the loss. His 23 points were a season high and he pulled down a game- and season-high 15 rebounds. Juan Wansley added 20 points for FSU.

Waynesburg had four players in double figures. Tim Drakeley went 10-for-11 from the free-throw line and had a game-high 28 points. Josh Parisi scored 25 points and pulled in eight rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets shot 56 percent (18-of-32) from the floor in the opening half. For the game, they shot 50 percent (30-for-60) from the field and 40 percent (10-for-25) from three-point range.

The Yellow Jackets scored the first 10 points, but the Bobcats closed it to 14-9 at the 14:34 mark. Drakeley hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead back to double digits for good. Waynesburg led 55-33 at the half.

The largest lead was 60-33 just after halftime.

Frostburg State plays again Saturday in a 3 p.m. home game against Mt. Aloysius.
