James W. Lininger [Friendsville]

FRIENDSVILLE - James William Lininger, 86, of Friendsville, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.

Born July 9, 1921, in Accident, he was the son of the late Adam Y. and Henrietta (Georg) Lininger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Marie (Selby) Lininger, Feb. 8, 2008; one daughter, Ruth Ann Motz, and two sisters, Mildred Brown and Katherine Chisholm.

Mr. Lininger was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a charter member of the Friendsville Lions Club and the Friendsville Fire and Rescue Dept. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Deer Park V.F.W. Post 10077.

Mr. Lininger was a 40 year school bus contractor for the Garrett County Board of Education, and in 1971 he established the J. Lininger Co. He had previously been em-ployed by the Garrett County Roads Department and Craig Motor Co., and had established a drum and bugle corps in which he marched for 10 years.

Surviving are one son, James E. Lininger and wife Judy, of Friendsville; one daughter, Glenda M. Slagle and husband Bradley, of Mountain Lake Park; one brother, Edward Lininger, of Friendsville; five grandchildren, Adam Lininger, Jennifer Savage, Heather Patterson, Brittany and Casey Slagle, and three great-grandchildren, Tara Savage, Kaylee and Tyler Patterson.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in Grace Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in Steele Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be accorded by combined area veteran's service organizations.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Friendsville Days celebration.
