W. Mark Conway (Frostburg)

FROSTBURG — W. Mark Conway, 60, of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the WMHS-Memorial Campus.

Born March 18, 1949, in Frostburg, Mark was the son of the late William “Goat” Conway and Phyllis (Skidmore) Conway.

Mark was a devoted father, a loving husband and a good friend. He was well known and liked in the community. Mark was a fun, vivacious person who enjoyed life and lived his to the fullest. He will be truly missed.

Mr. Conway grew up in Frostburg, graduating from LaSalle and Virginia Military Institute in 1971. While in Virginia, he taught English as a second language. After relocating his family back to Frostburg, Mark taught English and coached football at Bishop Walsh High School. He more recently was the foreman of a framing crew. He was a softball and baseball umpire for years. He enjoyed cooking for his family and was an avid poker player.

Mark was a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg, Knights of Columbus Council 1442, Frostburg, and Eagles Aerie 2883, Cresaptown.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tracey (Bauer) Conway; four daughters, Jessica Conway and Nicole Conway, at home; Rebecca Wheless and husband Jeff, and Jennifer (Conway) Stamper; two sons, Mark Conway and wife Sara, and Jeffrey Conway; one sister, Patricia Winebrenner, of Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center; and one brother, Ronnie Conway and wife Karen, of Oregon; four grandchildren, Ben and Arden Wheless, and Jillian and Joshua Conway.

Mr. Conway was cremated in accordance with his wishes.

A memorial service will be held at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, Thursday, Nov. 5, at noon with Dr. Lewis Skidmore officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
