George William Woerner [Tallahassee]

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — George William Woerner, 84, of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in Tallahassee.
He was a native of Cumberland and former resident of Baltimore and Titusville, Fla., residing in Tallahassee since 1970. George was a pioneering guidance engineer and technical writer for the U.S. space program and an engineer for the Florida Public Service Commission. His volunteer work includes many years of service as a Florida Supreme Court certified mediator and arbitrator, as a highly-decorated member of the Navy Fleet Reserve. In 2005, Mr. Woerner was the recipient of the Tallahassee Volunteer of the Year for Civic Service. George was also an avid gardener and crabber.
He worshipped at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Tallahassee.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Irene; three sons, George Charles Woerner, of San Diego, Calif., Richard Harry Woerner, of Tallahassee, and James Allan Woerner, of Port St. John; one daughter, Joanne Woerner, of Washington, D.C.; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday Nov. 4, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beggs Funeral Home, Apalachee Parkway Chapel, Tallahassee, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Epiphany Lutheran Church, Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday Nov. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m.
