Bear Watch

Two more bears have died on a high-speed Maryland road, according to Harry Spiker of the Wildlife & Heritage Service.

On July 9, a 152-pound male black bear died on Interstate 70 in Frederick County.

On July 12, also in Frederick County, a 250-pound female bear was struck and killed on I-70 on South Mountain. Spiker said the bear was tagged as a cub in Frederick County in 2009.

These road-kills bring the annual total to 19 in the state, according to an unofficial count maintained by the Cumberland Times-News.

To report bear incidents in Garrett County, call the agency at 301-334-4255. In Allegany County call 301-777-2136.
